Cléo Palacio-Quintin

Ms. Palacio-Quintin’s growing fascination for electroacoustic music led her to explore the many technical resources related to flute performance, so as explore every possible sonic dimension of the instrument. While studying at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague’s Institute of Sonology, she extended these explorations into development of a new instrument: the hyper-flute. Interfaced to a computer and software by means of electronic sensors, the enhanced flute enabled her to compose novel electroacoustic soundscapes.

Constantly seeking new means of expression and eager to create, she takes part in many premieres of new works as well as improvisational multidisciplinary performances, and composes instrumental and electroacoustic works for various ensembles. Over the past four years her compositions have been performed in The Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, the U.K., Canada and the U.S., either by herself or ensembles such as the Malle Symen recorder quartet and Het Nederlands FluitOrkest, a 32-flute orchestra (both based in The Netherlands), the Alizé flute octet and the Trio Fibonacci (Canada), and the U.S.-based ensembles Non Sequitur (a multi-instrumental sextet) and Odd Appetite (a cello/percussion duo).
