Internship offers within The HTMlles festival

For the 11th edition of the festival HTMlles, under the theme “Zero Future”, taking place this November 7-15, 2014

  • Public Relations : deadline July 7th, internship from September 14th to November 20th
  • Technical Assistant : deadline August 18th, internship from September to December
  • Production Assistant : deadline August 18th, internship from September to December

Founded 17 years ago by the artist center Studio XX, The HTMlles is an international platform dedicated to the presentation of women’s, trans and gender non-conforming artists’ independent media artworks from all facets of contemporary technological creation. The festival occupies the singular position of being one of the only events promoting and disseminating independent media artworks with a particular emphasis on feminist approaches, concerns and engagements.

PUBLIC RELATIONS INTERN

Description of the position:
Under the responsibility of the Communications and Partnerships Coordinator, the Public Relations Intern provides support for certain communications operations and participates in media relations for the 11th edition of the festival HTMlles, under the theme “Zero Future”, which will take place November 7-15, 2014. The internship may comprise a variety of the following tasks and responsibilities, with the main objective of providing support to the Communications and Partnerships Coordinator, in accordance with the candidate’s major of study.

Public Relations:

  • Research of media coverage and media partners
  • Development of public relations and press relations
  • Put in place a media coverage strategy
  • Promote media relations leading up to and during the festival

Communications :

  • Prepare a press kit according to the communication plan
  • Prepare an unveiling of the festival programming and an official festival launch
  • All other tasks related to assisting the Communications and Partnerships Coordinator

Requirements / Skills:

  • Dynamic, resourceful, and great interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills required
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Bilingualism (French and English)
  • Ability to work well independently and on a team
  • Interest in media and feminist arts an asset

Conditions of the internship:

  • Location: 4001 Berri, 2nd floor, Montreal (Regrettably, the building is not wheelchair accessible)
  • Schedule: to be defined with the intern, according to credit validation needs
  • Unpaid internship, can be done within an education or academic context in exchange for credits, as well as offering solid work experience, letters of reference, and a year-long membership to StudioXX for the intern.
  • Duration: from July 14th to November 20th, 2014, with the possibility to adapt the dates with the candidate

TECHNICAL ASSISTANT INTERNSHIP

Description of the position:
Under the responsibility of the Technical Director, the Technical Assistant provides support for technical production and services for the 11th edition of the festival HTMlles, under the theme “Zero Future”, taking place this November 7-15, 2014. The internship may comprise a variety of the following tasks and responsibilities, with the main objective of providing support to the Technical Director. While a candidate with a broad technical knowledge base and some experience is desired, the position also allows for learning and growth, expanding on the candidate’s major of study and/or areas of interest and skill. Working in a collaborative team environment, the festival workplace is dynamic, feminist, and grounded in artist-run culture, offering an excellent opportunity to work with international and local artists and gain in-depth experience in many aspects of technical production.

The Production Assistant will provide support in the following areas and tasks:

Administration:

  • Assessment and planning of artist and event technical needs
  • Preparation of the technical plan and schedule
  • Communication with artists, partners, and venues
  • Maintenance and updating of organized technical dossiers

Technical :

  • Installation, setup, and technical support for live performances and events (sound, video, lighting, projection, etc)
  • Installation of 2D, sculptural, and new media art works (gallery setting)
  • Technical support for the festival Artists In Residence (video, installation, etc)
  • Any other duties related to assisting the Technical Director

Equipment:

  • Equipment research and rental
  • Equipment installation and transport (sound, video, projection, lighting, etc)
  • Evaluation of equipment/technical support at event venues and partnership spaces

Requirements / Skills:

  • Ability to work well both autonomously and in a team environment
  • Motivated, organized and resourceful
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Interest in and knowledge base of technical production (sound, video, lighting, installation, etc.)
  • Strong time management, problem-solving and multitasking skills
  • Ability to work in a bilingual environment (functional in both French and English)
  • Interest in media and feminist arts a strong asset
  • A valid drivers license (Class 5) an asset (please indicate in application)

PRODUCTION ASSISTANT INTERNSHIP

Under the responsibility of the Technical Director, the Production Assistant provides support for all aspects of production for the 11th edition of the festival HTMlles, under the theme “Zero Future”, taking place this November 7-15, 2014. The internship may comprise a variety of the following tasks and responsibilities, with the main objective of providing production support to the Technical Director, mainly assistance with the coordination of festival logistics relating to events and volunteers. While a candidate with some experience and knowledge of production is desired, the position also allows for learning and growth, expanding on the candidate’s major of study and/or areas of interest and skill. Working in a collaborative team environment, the festival workplace is dynamic, feminist, and grounded in artist-run culture, offering an excellent opportunity to work with international and local artists and gain in-depth experience in many aspects of arts festival production.

The Production Assistant will provide support in the following areas and tasks:

Events:

  • Planning of events and assessing event needs (artist talks, performances, openings, etc.)
  • Communication with event venues and partnership spaces
  • Maintenance and updating of organized schedules and dossiers on events and venues

Logistics :

  • Organization of event logistics (talks, performances, openings, etc.)
  • Coordination of local transport of materials, equipment, and artists
  • Any other duties related to assisting the Technical Director in areas of production

Volunteers :

  • Volunteer recruitment, orientation, and coordination
  • Production of volunteer plan and schedule
  • Assessment of meaningful volunteer engagement in festival production

Requirements / Skills:

  • Ability to work well both autonomously and in a team environment
  • Motivated, organized, and resourceful
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Interest in and knowledge base of production and event organizing
  • Strong time management, problem-solving, and multitasking skills
  • Ability to work in a bilingual environment (functional in both French and English)
  • Interest in media and feminist arts a strong asset
  • Previous experience working with volunteers, or as a volunteer, a plus (particularly in arts/culture)
  • A valid drivers license (Class 5) is an asset
