Helen Varley Jamieson (UK, N-Z) oeuvre dans le milieu du théâtre où elle agit en tant qu'auteure, directrice et productrice. Depuis 2000, elle explore le potentiel de l'internet comme lieu de performance, définissant un genre nouveau qu'elle nomme "cyberformance". Elle réalise son travail principalement au sein de la troupe de cyberformance Avatar Body Collision dont les membres sont dispersés aux quatre coins du monde (www.avatarbodycollision.org). Troupe qu'elle a d'ailleurs co-fondée en 2002. Leur travail a été présenté internationalement. Helen Varley Jamieson est aussi responsable de projet de UpStage, une plate-forme de diffusion réseau pour performances en direct sur internet. (www.upstage.org.nz).
Adriene Jenik, artiste américaine en télécommunications médiatiques se joindra à la conférence par l'intermédiaire de Skype. Elle parlera d'expériences du projet Desktop où des performances virtuelles sont réalisées à partir d'un environnement de groupe de discussion. Ce projet est développé au département des Arts visuels, médiatiques et informatiques de L'Université de Californie à San Diego (UCSD) où elle est rattachée. (www.adrienejenik.net)

Cet atelier est une introduction au logiciel UpStage, une plate-forme logiciel libre destinée à la performance en ligne. Le logiciel combine les éléments varies (image, son...) de la performance virtuelle à l'intérieur d'une même page web. L'audience n'a qu'à pointer leur navigateur sur le site à l'heure convenue pour regarder et participer. UpStage est disponible gratuitement.

A meeting with the conceptual and online performance artists, Helen Varley Jamieson and Adriene Jenik

Helen Varley Jamieson (UK N-Z) has a background in theater as a playwright, director and producer. Since 2000 she has explored the potential of the internet as a site for performance, defining a new genre that she has termed "cyberformance". Most of this work has been as a member of the globally dispersed cyberformance troupe Avatar Body Collision (www.avatarbodycollision.org) which she co-founded in 2002. This pioneering group have devised numerous performances using the internet to bring the remote players together. Their work has been presented at festivals around the world. Helen Varley Jamieson is also the project manager for UpStage, software that creates a web-based venue for live performance on the internet (www.upstage.org.nz).
Adriene Jenik, an american telecommunications media artist, will join us virtually at the event using the software Skype. She will speak of her experiences with the Desktop Theatre project, where her online theatrical performances take place through virtual group dialogue and interaction. This project was developed within the Visual Arts Department at the University of California, San Diego, where Adriene is currently serving as an Associate Professor of Computer & Media Arts. This workshop is an introduction to the software UpStage, an open source venue for online performance. The software combines the various elements of virtual performance (image, sound...) onto a single web page. The audience simply points their browser to the UpStage web site at the appointed time, to watch and participate. UpStage is available for free to anyone who would like to use it.
